The Prayer of St Francis is my prayer today

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon.
Where there is doubt, faith.
Where there is despair, hope.
Where there is darkness, light.
Where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled, as to console; to be understood, as to understand;
to be loved, as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive.
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.

Amen.

Steve Jobs thought different

P83

Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.

Act of vandalism now a Glaswegian icon

(download)

I thought this was interesting. The company behind the redevelopment of 110 Queen Street in Glasgow have created a huge poster with a graphic representation of the Duke... the statute of the Duke of Wellington outside Glasgow's Gallery of Modern Art... with the traffic cone on his head.

The cone is *technically* an act of mischievous vandalism and yet it is also an iconic Glaswegian landmark. As I said... interesting.

Had a lovely day in Venice

(download)

We had a lovely day in and around San Marco, Rialto & Car d'oro. We did what we love to do in Venice... get lost and walk for hours in all the wonderfully intriguing alleyways. We even found the *only* McDonalds in the city... for Miriam.

Venice is an amazing city... one that is truly beautiful, warm & welcoming... with her own soul.

Will be back... soon.

For my morning commute... "destroyed" by Moby

P669

I bought "destroyed" by Moby in Fopp on Sunday. I paid extra for the packaging with a wee book of his fab pics. I wasn't disappointed.

I'll talk about his photos later... for now I want to focus on the music.

Moby has travelled in various musical directions over his career... creating, as he went, some true masterpieces. "Destroyed" feels like a microcosm of this journey... with a true variety of sounds & styles blending together to make an interestingly cohesive whole. In a way like an expertly crafted mixtape.

There are a few tracks that stand out: "the day", "Victoria Lucas" and "after" have grabbed my attention... so far... but the majority of the album works as a whole. I guess this is why Moby asks his listeners, in the liner notes, to listen to "destroyed" all the way through... at least once.

I have a feeling "destroyed" will be an album for this summer. Whilst it was created late at night for late at night... it feels like the kind of album that will soundtrack my summer. I think music works best when it is recontextualised to the listener and his/her environment.

My only criticism, so far, is Moby's healthy use of vocoders. I'm not a fan of them... ever since the second Air album.

That said "destroyed" is a pleasure from start to finish for me... even with these vocoders... a should be viewed/enjoyed as a whole entity rather than a pick and mix of tracks.

Currently listening to... "helplessness blues" by Fleet Foxes

P554

There is a comfort that comes with familiar things and my first listen to the new Fleet Foxes album was that... a wonderfully familiar & comfortable experience.

The vocal harmonies are there. The acoustic guitars are there. The feeling of summer... is there.

It feels familiar... and could easily be an extension of their previous album. This isn't a bad thing but a tremendous achievement. They have struck audio gold and have found more... in the same vein.

I am very impressed. This album will be on heavy rotation in the days, weeks, months and, dare I say, years to come. Love it.

As

As around the sun the earth knows she's revolving and the rosebuds know to bloom in early May.
Just as hate knows love's the cure, you can rest your mind assure.
That I'll be loving you always.
As now can't reveal the mystery of tomorrow but in passing will grow older every day.
Just as all is born is new, do know what I say is true.
That I'll be loving you always.

Did you know that true love asks for nothing.
Her acceptance is the way we pay.
Did you know that life has given love a guarantee.
To last through forever and another day
Just as time knew to move on since the beginning and the seasons know exactly when to change.
Just as kindness knows no shame, know through all your joy and pain.
That I'll be loving you always.
As today I know I'm living but tomorrow could make me the past but that I mustn't fear.
For I'll know deep in my mind, the love of me I've left behind.
Cause I'll be loving you always.

We all know sometimes lifes hates and troubles can make you wish you were born in another time and space.
But you can bet you life times that and twice its double that God knew exactly where he wanted you to be placed.
So make sure when you say you're in it but not of it, you're not helping to make this earth a place sometimes called Hell.
Change your words into truths and then change that truth into love, and maybe our children's grandchildren and their great-great grandchildren will tell...
I'll be loving you.

"As" by Stevie Wonder... taken from "songs in the key of life". Words that are very apt for the day before Easter Sunday.

Passion... Two albums that mean a whole lot to me

(download)

The soundtracks to "the last temptation of Christ" and "the passion of the Christ" mean a whole lot to me... especially at this time of year - their ambience adding to my meditation on the suffering of Jesus.

I have only seen one of the two films (the passion... ) and only seen it once. Regardless... I think that their power as soundtracks is evident... with the sentiment they express being the value I seek from them.

Well worth checking out... if you haven't already?

Currently listening to... Yann Tiersen's soundtrack for "Amelie"

P451

Amelie is a wonderfully quirky film... filled with stunning visuals, excellent acting, a fascinating tale to tell & a wondrous soundtrack.

I only recently picked up the soundtrack & absolutely love it. It has a expertly crafted balance of quirkiness and poignancy... that really works for me... and demonstrates how talented Yann Tiersen is.

So much so... I picked up a number of his other albums. Talented is actually an understatement.

Find it on Spotify & enjoy. It's for sunny days like today.
